18 Mile Long Turtle Run – Great Fun
Turtle pace all the way and enjoying my run were my goals today. Eighteen miles is a long way to go and I did not want to run out of steam or be in pain a mile or two before I was done. I was looking forward to being on my own for three hours, spring break with no vacation planned, meant a lot of time home with the kids. I needed to get away from the noise.
I enjoyed my alone time and had plenty of energy. At mile 14, however, I started to dwell on how hard the rest of the run was going to be. A funk started settling in, then I saw my husband running and my kids riding their bikes down the trail. And although I originally wanted to spend time alone, I was really glad they showed up. The last four miles flew by as we talked, laughed and exercised together. It really gave me the boost I needed to not just finish my run but finish it in a great mood.
Today’s run was definitely not fast, it took me 3 hours 8 minutes and 47 seconds to finish the 18 miles, but it very enjoyable. Getting both me time and family time in one activity was awesome!
I just want to say thank you to my husband for thinking of me today. He knew the last few miles would be tough and he came out to keep me company and help me get through them. Thank You!

You’re so blessed to have a family who supports your running. Glad they could be there to help you finish out the 18!
i echo greg’s comments. that’s the first thing that came to mind. you are very lucky to have such a caring and supportive family.and of course, they, too are fortunate to have such a great athlete for a mom and wife. it’s not easy to do all three well but you do so with great poise and grace it seems.
What an amazing family you have. That was awesome of your hubby to think of you like that and find ways to support you during those last few miles. Congrats on getting in 18 miles!
How nice that he did that. Very sweet and congrats on 18 miles!
That is great to read. Having a good time in a long run is so important. It’s great that your family showed up. My Missus joined me for a long run some time ago – on her bicycle – and it was the best run ever.
Great run!
Thank you all for your encouraging and motivational words about my run and I agree with you all wholeheartedly I am a lucky turtle.
I don’t think that is a slow time. As long as you keep moving forward.
Was going to leave a comment about how fantastic your family is to join you on those last 4 miles, but it seems that everyone else has beaten me to it!
Excellent pace on your long run! Me thinks you should change your moniker from turtlescanrun to turtlescanrunfast!
That’s right fellow turtle, as long as we keep going and going
Thanx, Penguin
