• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • The Downside of Running with a Group

Monday morning I woke up tired and a little achy but decided to go on my group run anyway.  Bad idea.  Normally I would not have run, I would have taken a rest day.  After all I did run a 10k race on Saturday, and then ran in the 5K with my daughter on Sunday.  [...]

Daughter’s First 5k- Purple Stride Austin Race Report

    Dear Mom,
I am so excited about the 5K.  I like to run with you. You’re kind of like my “running Cheerleader”.  It’s so fun to talk to you while I run.  It’s going to be so fun.
That is an excerpt for a little note that my daughter gave me last night.  As you can see [...]

Texas Round-up 10K Race Report: Humid and Hilly

Those are the two words that best describe my 10K race today.  I guess I should not have expected to much considering the fact that I signed up for the race last weekend and have not really been training for a 10K.  Since my half, I have really just been running whatever the running group [...]

Bloody Nose: Another Run with Hubby

Did another 4 mile run with hubby this week.  He did much better this time, well at least he did not puke.  Once again my goal was to run 9 minute miles.  This midweek run is really just maintenance mileage, not speed.   First mile we were on target, 8:58.  Second mile he actually sped up [...]

    Spinning Outside Without Any Seats

When I arrived at my gym today, I saw some ladies bringing spin bikes outside and I realized  we would be spinning outdoors.  This was a first for me, but not really surprising since somebody told me they sometimes do this.  It was a very nice day out and the room we usually spin in [...]

    Spin Shoes

Over the weekend I purchased some cycling shoes for spin class.  I put off buying them for a little while to make sure I was actually going to continue spinning, since they are not exactly cheap.  I ended up going to REI.  We have quite a few small bike shops here, but I did not [...]

    Racing Plans Update

Procrastinator, that is me.  Everyone else seems to have their race year planned out but I wait till the last minute to sign up for race.  I am all signed up for two next weekend, but I am only going to really be running one for full speed.  Saturday, I will be running in the [...]

    Long Sweaty Treadmill Run

When I left home this morning it was raining, I wasn’t sure whether we were going to run outdoors or not so I came prepared to.  I  arrived at the gym and found out there was a hail/thunderstorm  coming our way, which meant we were running  on treadmills.  It was an interesting experience because even [...]

Making my Husband Toss his Cookies

Mr. TurtlesCanRun and I went for a run yesterday.  I had had a goal pace in mind so I went for it, nothing too fast, half marathon pace.  Mr. T made it through mile 1, he said it was an uncomfortable but doable pace  for him.  By mile 1.5 his breathing was ragged ( he [...]

    Setting My Own Schedule

The weather has been beautiful the past couple of weeks and I have been enjoying running outdoors.  Saturday, I ran 8  miles solo  and felt good during my run  but did not eat or drink anything after.  I was severely fatigued and dizzy the rest of the day, even after I ate.  So I ended [...]
