• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

I’ve been using my Nike + to track my runs for over a year now.  As I mentioned in a previous post it has been both helpful and motivational.  Today I reached a new milestone on Nike +,  I have logged 1,000 miles on there website.  Looking back through my runs I can see how far I have come, and the improvement is very encouraging.  When I first started out,  running 1 mile was very hard for me, I was very impressed by the mileage I saw on other runner’s profiles and the thought of logging even 100 miles seemed daunting.  It is pretty cool to have reached 1,000 and I hope to run another 1,000 by the end of the year.

My Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor arrived last night and today I took it out for a test drive.  This is not my official review of the product, since I’ve only used it once,  just my initial thoughts and impressions.  First of all it is big, which I expected from the pictures, but it is not too big.  It fits my wrist and is not heavy or uncomfortable.  It was easy to charge and use the first time, without  reading all the instructions in detail.  I just went out my front door and pushed the power and start button, it connected to the satellite and I started running.  I ran my first mile a little faster than I normally would because I could see my pace, and it was fun seeing how fast I could go.  Being able to see my pace also made be realize how much slower I go when I am going uphill, I definitely need to get some hill work in before my half marathon, or my time is going to be horrible.  When I got home, I stopped it and looked at the summary, which included: total time and distance, averages and maximums for  heart rate and pace, and total calories burned.  Imported my  gps data on runningahead.com, I like their charts, maps and graphs. It will be interesting to compare my data from different runs.  I really love the fact that I can see a little map of where I ran, not new technology I know, but still really cool. There are many other sites that I can import my data to, so I will be trying some of them out to see which one I like best.  So after my first run, I like the Garmin 305, and am happy with my choice. I will write a blog post about it after I have used it for a while, have tried out some of the other functions and can give a full review of the product.
