Audiobooks: Good for long, slow runs
Today’s run, I knew from the get go was not going to be a fast one. Normally the day before a long run (for me anything over 10 miles) is a rest day or a three mile easy run day. Yesterday I covered seven miles: 2 walking, 3 running with my daughter, and 2 running solo. So I knew it was not going to be an easy 10 miles today.
I’ve been getting a little bored with my music lately. Changing my playlists up and adding new music helps, but I just did not feel like listening to music today so I decided to listen to an audiobook.
Audiobooks are great, I enjoy listening to them while I am cleaning, cooking or doing yard work. Today listening to an audiobook helped me from feeling bored during my long run. I can not listen to an audiobook when I am trying to run hard and fast, for those times I need my music. But on a day like today when I was just trying to get the miles in and pace isn’t an issue it was nice. I ended up running 11.22 instead of 10, I should have turned when my Garmin say 5 miles but I wanted to run to the end of the trail since it was close. Of course when running an out and back trail what seems close can add 1.22 miles. I was a little tired when done, but I got through it and am taking a rest day tomorrow.
