Bloody Nose: Another Run with Hubby
Did another 4 mile run with hubby this week. He did much better this time, well at least he did not puke. Once again my goal was to run 9 minute miles. This midweek run is really just maintenance mileage, not speed. First mile we were on target, 8:58. Second mile he actually sped up and I just stayed with him. I could tell he was struggling, he was huffing and puffing but we finished the second mile in 8:37. When we turned around his breathing was ragged and he slowed down. I continued at my planned pace, hoping hubby would speed up again and catch up to me. I finished my third mile in 9:02 without seeing hubby, I turned around to pick him up on the trail. Turned out he not only was having trouble breathing he also had a bloody nose. He really is a trooper, we ran back to the car very slowly 10:58 for the last mile. There were turkey vultures circling us at one point during that last mile, really they were. I joked that they smelled his blood and were waiting for him to keel over. I’m so mean. But, he loves me anyway and we will be running together again next week
I wonder what will happen next time..

Whoa that sounds like a very heavy run. Does he have bloody noses frequently?
@COMC He has been getting nose bleed since we moved to Austin. They usually when he is working out, we think they are allergy related. Oh and the nose bleed wasn’t severe, did not last more than a couple of minutes. By the time we started running together again it had stopped.
LOL – that was a great run!!! I was cracking up about that all week. I do think the nose bleed had a little to do to my allergies, but I still think it is fair for you to take the credit.
I am making progress though, first time I wasn’t close – second I stayed with you for the first half – next week keeping up with you will be a PR – if I can keep up with you I know I can increase my speed and with that become a better runner
Wow, you really push him don’t you. =)
@Mr. Turtles, I applaud your effort and your outlook! You are a great hubby.
Yeah, I remember when I used to throw up when I was running!!, it is quite interesting to see how far each one of us runners has gone through without even realized it!!
Nice blog!
I love that each run with your hubby is an adventure! Its really nice to have someone to share a running bond with
What’s the humidity like in Austin? When I lived in the north, I’d get nose bleeds like crazy in the winter b/c it’d be dry outside, then I’d get inside with the moist air and it would cause nose bleeds.
Oh, and it sounds like running with you is hazardous to your husband’s health!
@ Frenchiegirl LOL. It may seem that way but after the run he feels much better. Austin is usually pretty dry. My hubby has pretty bad allergies as well and both things irritate the mucous membranes and can cause nosebleeds.
Wow, I think he really is a trooper, maybe you should go a little easier on him. Hopefully he doesn’t hurt himself. However, Austin has such great places to go (and doctors too, lol), that there should be lots of options for you two to try.
@Joe You know the best thing for his allergies and asthma has been running. Before he started running, he was using his inhaler constantly, and now he doesn’t use it at all. He hasn’t been running as consistently lately and has been having a little more trouble, but he is trying to build his base back up.
