Brushy Creek Regional Trail
In a previous post I mentioned my favorite trail, it is the brushy creek regional trail. I always start at Brushy Creek Lake. There is a one mile loop next to the lake. Very peaceful and scenic, there is a nice waterscape there for the kids to play at in the summer, there are also picnic areas, a place where you can rent kayaks and a playground. After the loop you can get on the main part of the trail, you can go out another four miles. Most of the trail is crushed granite, so it is easy on the legs, the last mile is concrete. The trail is almost completely flat so it is not very challenging if you are looking for hills. There is one hill that leads up to the dam, which gets your heart pumping. There is also a quarter mile loop that you can add in at mile three that has a hill as well. There are several water fountains and playgrounds along the way.
Parts of the trail are shady which is nice during the hot Texas summer. It is a great trail for running, riding bikes, or walking. One of the best parts is that it is only 5 minutes from my house by car and they will soon be opening an extension to the trail. Another 2.36 miles, I will be able to get right on the trail from my development, and the trail will end at the Twin Lakes YMCA which is where I work out. My only beef is that the extension is going to be all concrete, which I really don’t like running on.
But I am sure I can run along the side in the grass. The grand opening is March 7. It will be nice for taking the kids out on their bikes and for walks. I am looking forward to exploring this new part of the trail. I am sure I will post about it after I do.

Trail looks beautiful. Wishing for some of that natural beauty to come to S. Cal!!
That is a great track to be running across. It is great to be able to start your run so close to home.
