Dirty Shoes and Feeling Good

Woke up to rain and cold temperatures this morning, so I went to the gym right after I dropped the kids off for school.  Andrew came with me today, it was nice to have company.  Even though he does his own thing when we go to the gym together it is fun nice to just knowing  he  is around and  ocassionally poke his belly when he is lifting weights.  Hehehe.

We only had  about 40 minutes so I knew I wasn’t going to get my 6 miles in.   Decided to try to get 4 in,  I set the treadmill on a 10 min/mile pace and the incline on 2, to warm up.  I kept the speed constant  but varied the incline after every song.  So the inclines were 4,2,5,2,6,and then back down to 2 for the rest of the time.  Finished 4 miles and I thought about running home from to get my other miles in but it was  still raining and I was not dressed properly.  So I went home and got some warmer water proof clothes on and went out for my other 2 miles.  The rain had almost completely stopped and after the first mile I was warmed up.  It was nice to be outside, I felt free. The hilly path that leads to the trail was muddy and squishy.    My new sneimg_6827akers ain’t so white anymore, they  picked up so much mud they felt twice as heavy as they usually do, and by the time the mud had fallen off, it was time to climb back up the muddy hill to collect some more.  I must have been quite a funny site to behold with my poncho and muddy sneakers, and pants. Normally I would have just said I will do the other miles another day, I’m glad I didn’t.   My little muddy run was great fun and it really made me feel energized.  Lesson learned: Let go of your excuses and just do it!

With that said tomorrow is a running rest day and I am going to try my first spin class.  A little nervous, but I’m going to step out of turtle shell and do it.

  3. @Charles,
Thanks for the kind words. I really love running and the blogging allows me to “talk” about as much as I want without driving anyone crazy :) . It’s great fun!

  4. @Count of Monte Christo,
Getting messy and having fun doing it yesterday reminded me that I need to let my kids do it more often :)
