• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • Got Some New Summer Gear

Summer is coming  so I bought a couple of new things for training in the heat.

I like to wear hats when I train or race because they stop me from looking like a wild woman and it keeps the sun out of my eyes.  But I have thick hair and I guess a big head and after a while hats give me a headache and make my head sweat.  I saw a nice little pink under armour visor and decided to buy  it.  Visors are not usually my thing, but I’ve seen quite a few women at my gym wearing them so I figured it was worth a shot.  I Love it!  It is super comfy and easy to adjust.  I really like the  sweat band  on the inside of the rim that is made of  under armor heat gear material,  because unfortunately I sweat a lot and it keeps the sweat from rolling down into my eyes.  Of course it does a great job of blocking the sun and last but not least,  it looks super cute on.

I also bought some Nke Dri fit short sleeve tees one blue and one green.  They are super light weight and made of great moisture wicking material.  I really like how they feel on, although I must admit that when it really gets hot I will probably be wearing  just my sports bra on top.  But for these  Spring time runs, these shirts are great.

Never thought I would run without a shirt  but last year  after reaching my original goal weight and having to run in the extreme Texas heat, I gave in.   It was so much more comfortable, because although I wear moisture wicking shirts, they really get soaked and feel gross by the end of my summer runs.  When I run in my sports bra, I can put my dry shirt back on when I get to the car and not feel gross all the way home.   So that was my third purchase a new sports bra.  I hate the fact that the good ones  cost so much, but they are kind of like sneakers, if you skimp you will regret it.  So far I have been most satisfied with the Under armour ones.  Because they stay in place, and keep the girls in place  even when the material gets drenched in sweat.  I always buy black  because it is the only color I feel that I can wear without a shirt.

My last purchase was a pair of sunglasses for running.  Sunglasses tend to hurt my temples and fog up during a run, so I just don’t wear them.   But I know I need to protect my eyes so I went in search of a pair specifically made for exercise,  I found a pair that stayed in place, did not cost to much  and that in my opinion did not look ridiculous. The soft rubber nose pad and  temple tips  make them very comfy.  On my test run they also did not fog up.   Bought them at Academy Sports,   Iron Girl brand,  model Victorious.  Could not find them online but here is a picture of them.

Now the only thing I need is a new pair of shorts.  I currently wear a pair of under armour ones that I bought last year, I would like to buy a pair with some compression though.  Any recommendations?

    1. Yeah for new exercise clothes!!! I could probably spend $$$$$ on clothes and gadgets and gear…so I try not to look and be tempted! :) I’m sure they will keep you running fast as the seasons change!

    2. Exciting! It’s always fun to get new running gear. What kind of sunglasses did you get? I need a pair that I don’t have to keep pushing backing up on my nose.

    3. Iron girl and the model is Victorious..I bought them at Academy Sports for $20, couldn’t find the same ones online. They stay in place very nicely.

    4. Nothing beats a good shopping spree better than a running-gear shopping spree.
      Well done!

    5. Yea for new gear! I love visors and when I am running or out for a hike, you will most likely catch me in one. Full baseball caps tend to give me a headache like you said but visors are my best friend. I need new sunglasses too. I had a great pair that I used for surfing but broke them right before I moved to Colorado. I can’t remember what brand they were either since I had them for several years.

    6. I’ve been thinking I need to get some sort of visor too. Good to know that Under Armour is good. I agree about eyes needing protection but haven’t gotten around to getting sunglasses. I normally wear eyeglasses but got contacts just for running b/c I hate running with glasses on. I suppose sunglasses specifically designed for sports would be different than just wearing regular glasses.
