• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • Weekend Runs and Last week of Training

Had a couple of good runs this weekend.   Still not quite hitting the pace I want but it is improving so I am happy and I know that I can push a little harder without keeling over and I definitely will on race day.

My Saturday “Long” run was interesting.   Did 10 miles in 1 hour 35 minutes, pace 9:34 min/mile. On the way out I kept a nice  yet comfortable pace.  I was planning on picking up the pace on the way out, but realized once I turned around that the wind had been at my back and now it was time for me to fight it.  I fought  all the way but my last 3 miles were pretty slow.  A couple of times I actually felt like I was going backwards.   It was pretty funny!  I sure hope it is not windy next Saturday, if it is I will be trying to draft  behind other runners for sure.

    Saturday’s run:

    Distance Time Total Time Pace
    1 Mi 9:10.09 9:10.09 9:11
    1 Mi 9:07.44 18:17.53 9:08
    1 Mi 9:22.56 27:40.09 9:23
    1 Mi 8:56.13 36:36.22 8:57
    1 Mi 8:57.99 45:34.21 8:58
    1 Mi 9:23.35 54:57.56 9:24
    1 Mi 9:43.81 1:04:41.37 9:44
    1 Mi 9:58.86 1:14:40.23 9:59
    1 Mi 10:12.52 1:24:52.75 10:13
    1 Mi 10:36.62 1:35:29.37 10:37

Today’s 3 mile run was nice.  I was happy with my pace on the first 2 miles, and the last mile I decided to include that crazy, rocky, long hill  at the end and that messed up my pace.  Overall pace was 8:55 min/mile, it’s under 9 so I’ll take it.

    Today’s Run:

Distance Time Total Time Pace Avg HR Max HR
    1 Mi 8:36.03 8:36.03 8:37 163 174
    1 Mi 8:36.55 17:12.58 8:37 168 175
    1 Mi 9:31.64 26:44.22 9:32 174 182

Here is next week’s training plan, very easy. I should be nice and rested for my race.

    Monday: Rest

    Tuesday: 4 mile pace workout

    • warm up; 6 X 300 meters (recover 100); cool down.  Goal pace 7:47 min/mile

    Wednesday: 3 miles

    Thursday: Rest

    Friday: 3 miles

    Saturday: Zooma half marathon

Just a few short runs this week, my last week of training for my second half marathon,  then Zooma on Saturday. Hooray!  I am getting excited and I am ready to kick it!

    1. Great job on your workouts. Before moving to CO I lived in Hawaii and ran by the ocean for the most part. Some days the kona winds would be so bad that I felt like I was going backwards. Some days it was so bad that I would just give up and turn around to head the same way I came. LOL. Enjoy this week taking it easy. Good luck at Zooma! You are going to rock. =)

    2. great job on the runs this week! YAY for race week!!!

    3. I think your pace is fantastic. 9:40 is what I’m hoping for in my race in May. Running into the wind is no fun… had that experience this past Sunday. I really enjoy reading about your training runs and seeing all the info from your Garmin. Makes me want to get one. Keep up the good work… you are going to rock your race!
