Running with Music

Music is a great motivator for me when I am running.  It is especially helpful to me when I am running alone  or on the treadmill.  I have read many articles on the pros and cons of running with music.  And it just seems like everyone has a different opinion, some  people say it is good others say it is bad.  So I have tried both and found that music just make the miles go faster and it makes my run easier.  The strange thing about my running playlists is that they are full of songs I would normally never listen to.  My playlists contain a lot of rap, hip hop and dance music.   I usually listen to alternative and rock, which of course  I also include in the mix.  Variety is always key for me, so I am always looking for new music and changing my playlists around  for  my next run.

I also enjoy the Nike plus coached runs.  Today I ran to the Lance Armstrong Run Longer workout for the Nike +Various Artists - Lance Armstrong: Run Longer - Lance Armstrong: Run Longer (Continuous Mix).   This is my favorite workout released by Nike +,  I find it very motivational and I push myself as if Lance was really there telling me “pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever”. Of course it is too short for my whole run but I just put on other music when it is over.

To sum it all up, I know I need to use caution when running with music and I do.  The pros of music while running far outweigh the cons, at least for me.  So I will continue running to the beat of the music.  Below are some interesting articles about running with music.

  1. A topic near and dear to my heart.

I listen to music when I do most everything, so listening while running was a natural marriage for me. I guess I can see why some folks don’t, but judging by the number of headphones I see out there on the road and trails, a whole lot of us do.

I’d offer my own little post about running music to your list of links: http://www.hellasound.com/site/read/music-and-athletic-performance/
We’re a week away from releasing our first running music song, and hopefully the folks that like to run to music will like to run to *our* music! :)
