My Daughters Story about Her First 5k
My daughter had to write about something challenging she completed, she chose running the Purple Stride 5k as her topic . I thought it was so cute, I wanted to share it. Enjoy!
When I Ran a 5k
I was so excited! I was going to run the Purple Stride 5k with my mom! 5 kilometers, that is just a little more than 3 miles. That’s not that long. Well maybe it is, but who knows that right now. I was thinking about this while we were driving in the car. We were almost to the race.
Me and Mom were wearing matching outfits to the race. They were pink shirts with hearts on them, black running skirts and black nike hats. Mom said that I was kind of like her “mini me” for the day. I liked that. Just then we arrived in the parking lot. I noticed there weren’t a lot of cars there.
When we were out of the car and by the race start, I looked for the typical race announcer, Evil! Then we walked around for a while and warmed up. Soon it was time for the race.
Someone sang the National Anthem. Then the air horn blew and we were off! I wa actually running a 5K!
The first mile was easy. Mom and I passed a LOT of people. Surprisingly a lot of them were adults.
At first we were running on just road. But soon we were running on gravel too. And there was a bit of sidewalk here and there. Then there was the first water stop.
By mile 2, I started seeing a bunch of squashed old cups all over the track . I started counting them along the way. How long was it till mile 3? I thought. Just then, I felt like I could run no longer. My sides hurt and I was holding my breath for a reason I didn’t know of.
I said to Mom ” I don’t think I can run any longer.” And mom said “think of all the stuff at the snack bar” “Like a banana?” “Like a banana”.
So I started saying “Banana! Banana! Banana!” all the rest of the way until the finish line was in view. As we got closer I started saying “I’m not sprinting yet.” But when we were closest to the finish I sprinted. As I crossed the line I heard Evil say my name.
I had come in in 31 minutes. I was so happy!! I had run a 5k! I rushed to the snack bar and enjoyed a banana and an after race snack.
THE END!

What a great review! A banana as the mid-race inspiration! And a good time to boot! A great family activity!
