National Running Day-Did You Run?
That’s right we runner’s now have a holiday. What’s it all about? Here’s a little blurb from the website.
National Running Day is a national initiative whereby many of the major organizations within the running industry are joining forces in an unprecedented unified effort to nationally and locally promote running as a healthy, easy, and accessible form of exercise. The inaugural National Running Day will be Wednesday, June 3.
I took today as an opportunity to reflect on all that running means to me and celebrated by going on a run with my husband. Running has helped me lose weight, have more energy, fight depression, and it has given me a feeling of empowerment. What does running mean to you?
Today’s run did cut my week off of running a couple of days short, but how could I resist. I am glad I took the time off and I am glad I ran today. We completed our 4.5 mile run in 44:27. No pain and no walking, yay. The first two miles were the best, I was able to go at close to my normal pace. After that I felt a little bit of tightness in my ITB and my adductor, so I slowed down a bit. I really enjoyed my run today (not something I have been able to say lately because of the pain) and I felt like a runner again.
It was another beautiful morning for running on the trail. We saw one snake, one turtle, 7 deer, and many beautiful birds. My husband was quite upset about not having his camera with him. We went for a walk on Monday and we didn’t even see any birds, he even had his new lens he was very disappointed.
I am glad I was pain free today but am not going to go all gun ho into a full schedule quite yet. I am going to continue to keep my mileage low, build back up slowly and hopefully the problem will go away.
Once again Happy National Running Day, if you haven’t run yet get out there and do a mile or two

Running definitely makes me feel healthier and happier – taking time out for yourself to do something makes such a huge difference, and when that something is also good for your health? win-win situation.
glad you had a good Running day! I’m always a little baffled by people who have pictures from their runs – if I brought my camera I would get wayyy too distracted with photos to keep running!
Glad you got to enjoy NRD! & i’m even more glad you didnt have any pain! YAY! I ran today too! I love running and i’m so happy that i’m physically able to run. I thank god every day for allowing me to run. It has truly changed my life.
hey!!, its great that USA has a national running day!!, that just speaks of the high amount of attention the sports has over there!!

I wasn’t able to run today due to my tendonitis but I at least strength trained. I am living vicariously through everyone else that is able to run right now.
I had an unexpected treat today. I got to go running with my daughter on NRD. We have a little 5K route we have created in our neighborhood. Laura slowed her pace way down so we could run together the entire way.
I have many great memories of running races with Laura, running marathons for Kelly.
I never ever thought I could be a runner. I have learned a lot about myself and met some great people, some in person, some in cyber space.
Glad you got out and were able to celebrate NRD!
Great to hear about the painfree run. Being out on a run and seeing wildlife is the best, The wildlife you described sounds so cool to someone who is used to seeing dogs and the odd hare on his run
Glad you got a good run in! Same thing here – my first couple of miles are the best before some pain/tightness kicks in.
I have to start taking pics again on my runs – it’s cool what we get to see out there running around
I’m glad you were able to get out there and enjoy your run. I’m hoping next year’s NRD will do more to attract new runners to our sport. The more runners the merrier. More runners equals more races, less travel time to races, more running partners, more successful fundraisers for local 5Ks and a healthier (and happier) population as a whole.
I really enjoy reading your blog. Keep it up.
Thanks for all your comments. I love reading what inspires others to run and about their running experiences. Sounds like everyone had a great NRD. Sorry you couldn’t get out Lisa, I hope your tendonitis heals up soon.
