• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • New Part of Brushy Creek Regional Trail Open

My husband and I were on our way out the Brushy Creek Regional Trail for a run this morning and  noticed that the “no trespassing” sign at the entrance to the new portion of the trail (which is conveniently located two blocks from our house) was no longer there.  So we decided to try it out.  We had our doubts because the path to the actual trail has not been paved  yet  and weren’t sure if the trail would be blocked off.  Luckily it wasn’t, and we were pleasantly surprised.img_6673

The company in charge of building the trail  did a great  job carving the trail out, it is very peaceful with streams running along portions of the trail  and plenty of trees.  There were several benches for relaxing, a playground next to  new sports fields,  and a little work out area (for  sit ups, pull ups, etc. ).  It is  hilly, which is good because  I need to do more hill work.  The only down side is that it is all concrete, but I managed to run in the grass next to the trail 70% of the time, so it that really was not an issue.   It adds approximately another two and a half miles to the Brushy Creek Regional trail.  I am very excited because  I no longer have to drive out to the trail, I can just walk out the door and start running.  The other great thing is  I don’t have to drive to the gym, the trail ends at theimg_6639 Twin Lakes YMCA and is less than a mile walk on the trail, perfect warm up/cool down  distance.   And last but not least  it will be great for for walking and bike riding with the whole family.

Today should have been a rest day, but I did not take it because I had a chance to run with Andrew.  I am so glad because the weather was perfect and  I had a great time exploring the new portion of the trail with him.  We ran a total of 6.5 miles today,  I will definitely be taking the day off tomorrow.

We went back to the trail this evening with the kids.  They enjoyed walking, running and exploring the new trail.

    1. Great post! It is always a good thing when a recreation path/trail is used for both exercise and for getting around a neighborhood!

Sometimes, governments (or HOAs) do good things!

BTW… Way to spend a rest day! But what a fun way to abuse it!

    2. Cool pix, TurtlesCanRun. Makes me wish I had not moved from the house we had in the back woods of rural Kansas City…oh well! Keep training for that marathon…I plan to run one also.

    3. Hey I love your blog! It is too cute. (turtles are just cute in general). Pretty run pics, too.

    4. Thanks! Turtles are pretty darned cute :)
