Hi Runnrgrl,
Not sure if I would call it brave but as Kat said it was fun and it allowed me to focus a little more I think. You'll have to let me know if you try it out, I'm sure you would still "rock your race" even if you had not music :)

I haven't done many races, but I did not mind running my half without music. All of my training runs have had some kind of noise - music, I listened to a podcast once, or the various tv shows while at the gym. I did quite a bit of training in the gym (since I'm a 5:30am exerciser and it's still too dark for being outside), and though I listen to music, my eyes scan all the tvs. So what am I rambling about? At the race, it was almost like being in the gym - just taking in everything around me. And it was fun to listen in on others' comments, really take note of the crowds, and just enjoy myself!

i've never done a race without music. its a crutch i know but one that i really enjoy. music got me into running in the first place. i sail along. i should try a race without music for once and be brave like you. i'm now thinking about it. thank you for sharing.

I understand both of your doubts, I had the same ones. In the past I have canceled runs because my Ipod battery was dead..This no music thing is recent and just for the races and group runs. I will still be running most of my training runs with my tunes :)

Hey!! I been running for over a year now and I still have not been able to run withouth music!! Only once have I done it but I needed to run very very slow in order to complete my training! And to tell you the truth, I do not think I will be able to run withouth music anytime soon!

Glad it all worked out for you without the music. I can't imagine running without it but hearing I like the point about hearing the race being part of the experience. I had no idea that some races didn't allow i-pods but the reasoning definitely makes sense.
