• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • rainy days = treadmill workouts

This is not a repeat post about how I hate the treadmill or the post I wrote about getting caught out in the rain, in today’s post I will complain about both in one post.  Ha ha.

The rain forced me to run my 4 miles on the treadmill today, although I did enjoy my one rainy run I still can’t convince myself it is a good idea to run outside when it is cold and rainy.   The original plan for today was  a nice run on the flat gravel portion of the Brushy Creek Trail but alas it was not to be.  Instead it ended up being a 4 mile progressive run on the treadmill.  I started out a 6 mile/hour pace  and upped the speed .2 after every song, got it up to 7.6 and then put it back down to 6 to cool down.  Time went fairly quickly but the run sapped my energy  and enthusiasm for working out, and  I did not do anything else at the gym.  I really need to get some cross training in,  to get my calorie burn up and build some muscle.  But  it was just  not happening today.

Tomorrow’s run is 6 miles with  hill repeats.  And if the weather forecast is accurate it will be another treadmill  workout, ugg.  That will be number 3 this week,  and that is 3  to many.  I will do my best not to let it get me down,  I will conquer the treadmill.  Woo hoo! I’m trying to muster some enthusiasm here, not sure it is working though.

In my communications with other runners it seems that most share my aversion for the treadmill and many even have cute little nicknames for it like: dreadmill, dredgemill, deathmill, deadmill or the tediummill.  Do you have a nickname for the the treadmill?

    1. Like the idea of turning up the speed by .2 mph every song. I must try that. I’ve also called my treadmill a “tmill”, but I prefer “dreadmill”. I’ve come to enjoy tmill runs these days because they do provide good cross training.

    2. Treadmill runs are a necessary evil :-( Good job on keeping your enthusiasm!

    3. Run in the rain! I always get more excited when I run in the rain – seeing someone else out makes for a really enthusiastic wave, like “can you believe we’re both out in this crap?” Some of my most fun runs have been in the rain or snow or some other crap weather. Once you give in and realize you’ll be soaked, it gets fun.

    4. ugh treadmills are the worst. Seems like a lot of blogger folks were held captive by the t-mill because of the rain. It didn’t rain by me, but it got COLD again!

    5. Hate the treadmill too! Love the rain. But if it is cold or too hard I try to wait until later. The treadmill does make me go faster for some reason – maybe seeing my speed right there the entire time?!

    6. ekkk I hate the treadmill. I do find that if I am doing some sort of intervals on it, it goes by WAY faster… but still not fun :(
