Ran with Hubby: Almost Cried
Bit of a role reversal on my run with my husband on Tuesday. We started running and the hip pain was so bad I almost started crying. Two reasons I kept going: 1) the pain is always the worst at the beginning unless I’ve done something before my run to warm up 2) first half mile is concrete so I knew once I got off of the concrete the pain would lessen and it did. There was not as much pain as I went on but it was still present for most of the run, it started to ease up towards the end but then we were finished. I also think it eased up because our last mile was our slowest mile. I really tried to keep it slow, we ran a total of 4 miles and our average pace was 9:41 min/mile which is much slower than I was running before the hip thing, but I probably still should take it down another notch or not run at all if I want this pain to go away completely.
I did spin class on Wednesday and then ran 3 mile on the treadmill. This was the most comfortable run since my hip pain started. I bought some new sneaks, not sure if that was part of the problem, but I figured it was worth a try. My sneakers never last as long as other people claim theirs do, I have yet to get more than 250-300 miles out of a pair before I start having issues. I honestly think the run was more comfortable because I was warmed up and the fact that treadmills decrease the impact on the body.
We ran again today at an even slower pace, stayed on gravel the whole time and only did three miles. That worked much better than Tuesdays run but not as well as yesterdays treadmill run. First mile still pretty painful then it did not feel great, but the pain was only minor. The worst part for me was how freaking slow I was running, I am truly living up to my turtle name. Our average pace was 10:30 min/mile. As we were driving home my husband said to me “I like running with you”. My response was “Why because I have to run slow?” and he said, “Yes”. To this I just said, “I am glad somebody is getting some joy out of my bum hip”. We both laughed.
A doctor’s visit is definitely in my near future, just need to call and schedule an appointment. This is the first time I will be going to the doctor for something running related, but figure I should get it checked out. Until then I am going to force myself not to run and no matter what the doctor say I will not be running for two weeks. Just to give my body time to recover, as I mentioned before I am not currently training for anything so this would be the time to take off. I still plan on working out just no running. Try to fill workouts with other things like spinning classes, elliptical trainer, stepmill (need to see how it make my hip feel though), rowing, core work, strength training, and yoga. I really want to be fully recovered before starting my marathon training in July. So hopefully I don’t get bad news from the doctor, like no running for three months. That would totally screw up my plans.

Definitely see a doc. I’m glad I did for my tendonitis and to rule out a stress fracture. Hopefully it’s nothing serious and you can get back to running soon. Time off will allow you to do other workouts.
You need to rest/recover and see a doctor. I made the mistake of ignoring pain in my foot and was sidelined for 2-months. Keep us updated!
All the best,
Ron
Good Luck at the doctors when you go! Hopefully everything goes okay and its just a minor thing. You dont wanna have to stop running!
Good luck with the doctors appointment. I hope everything is only minor and you are good to go soon.
