• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

Last week I ran 47 miles, it was quite a bit more than my training program called for and I was really feeling the extra miles  yesterday.  After stretching, icing, foam rolling and taking the day off today, I feel much better and I am sure my legs will be ready to run again tomorrow.  I am a little concerned about my speed.  Most of my runs last week were much slower than usual, I am hoping it is just because I was running on a new hillier route and because my mileage was a little high.   So this week I am going to stick with the plan, not go overboard on my mileage, and hopefully I won’t be such a tortuga. After all training is supposed to help me run faster, not slower.   Here is my  training schedule for the week:

    • Monday: rest
    • Tuesday: 8 mile Pace workout  [  Miles: Warm up: 1 X 400 meters (recover 200 meters); 2 X 1 mile (recover for 400 meters); 1 X400 meters; cool down ]
    • Wednesday:4 miles
    • Thursday: 6 miles w/hill repeats
    • Friday: rest
    • Saturday: 16 miles
    • Sunday: 3 mile recovery run

    1. 47 miles! that’s great. Hooray for Monday rest days though.. it’s so nice to rest. Nice workout it looks like for the week!

    2. Such dedication! When is your next event?

    3. Wow – what an amazing training plan you are on. You go girl and you know, what don’t worry about speed – I realized that when I let go of focusing on speed, I can actually go faster because I am more relaxed and the energy can flow. Great blog post!

    4. Charles,
Thanks! Next big event is the Zooma Austin Half Marathon on April 4th.

    5. 47 Miles is a nice week at whatever speed. Good job.

    6. That is a serious number of miles per week!
The schedule looks heavy, with five runs per week.

      Great job!

    7. wow great job on the week!!!! the slower miles are definitely from the increased mileage, it takes some time for your legs to be able to catch up. when I was training for my 2nd marathon and I was increasing my mileage a lot, I was running much slower… after a few weeks my legs got their speed back. you are doing great!!!!!
