Some Days I Can’t Help Feeling Like a Turtle
Today I went out to do a 10 mile easy run. I was a little worried about my energy level because I started my run at 2:30 and that is the time of the day when I get a little sluggish. Started out easy, warmed up for a couple of miles and then settled into a good pace. I felt really good, like I was moving along but not pushing myself to hard. Around mile eight these two high school girls came gliding past. This upset me a little, I guess because I felt like I was pushing hard and they just flew by and their running looked effortless. I did not try to catch up with them but I did pick up my pace a little. Then to add insult to injury a woman pushing a double stroller comes up from behind and passes me, I picked up my pace, did not pass her but stayed right behind her. She then proceeded to give her husband the stroller and then she took off like a flash and I never saw her again. I ran my little heart out the rest of the run, and finished my 10 miles in 1 hour and 28 minutes. And even though that is a good pace for a ten mile easy run, I felt like a turtle out there. I am not saying this in a self pitying way, being passed by other women may tick me off at the time but ultimately it motivates me, it helps me realize I can go faster. I have already made a good amount of progress, I used to be a much slower turtle, less than a year ago my goal was to be able to run a ten minute mile, and now I can run an eight minute mile. But I want to be able to run faster, and for a longer distances. I will continue to work, and continue to get faster, and someday double stroller mom won’t be able to pass me with or without her stroller.
Slow and Steady Still Finishes the Race

Whenever that happens to me, I always like to believe that these people are going for a short run, rather than a 10 miles run
Oh gosh I am with you! It is awesome you can do 8 min miles! That rocks! I got passed one time during a long run by a guy going BACKWARDS! Are you kidding me? I thought I might strangle him lol. I always figure if they are going that fast they aren’t going far and that makes me feel better on those longer slower runs lol! great job!
