Staying Active While the Family is Home
This week is the first week of the kid’s summer vacation. I will no longer have the freedom to workout whenever I want during the day. Not whining, I know most people have to work around their work schedule to fit in their runs, it will just be a change. Last summer I woke at 5 to get my workouts in and stayed at the gym for 2 hours every morning. This year I will not be able to do that either. My husband has changed jobs since last summer and his schedule is a lot less flexible, so he is the one who wakes up at 5 to get a workout in.
My plan is to some mornings get in a short run after my husband gets home from the gym and is getting ready. I also plan on catching two spin classes a week and just taking the kids along. They really don’t mind going, they can play video games, watch TV, draw, etc in the kid’s room. I just don’t want to make them go to often. There will be weeks when I have to drive them to and from summer camps and then my schedule will change once again. If all else fails I will wait until my husband gets home and go for an evening class or run. Since I’m not on a fixed training schedule yet it should be easy, once I have to do specific workouts for my marathon training and my weekday runs get longer things may get a little more complicated, but I’m sure I’ll figure out a way to fit them in.
Yesterday we all went to the trail. The kids rode their bikes three miles and we ran alongside them. My daughter rides so much faster than my son, I really had to work hard to try to keep up with her ( I will probably be doing this sometimes as my workout as well, that is until it gets to hot in the mornings). When we finished the ride/run, my daughter wanted to run with me so we did a mile and then we all walked a mile while my husband took pictures. I really enjoyed our time on the trail and once again thought how lucky we are to have it so close to home. Afterwards we went home changed into our swim clothes and went to the pool. The cool water feels so great after running. I attempted to do some laps, they were slow and I have really sucky form but I enjoyed it. Finished the morning off laying in the sun and reading a book. What a perfect Sunday!

Your family bike/run yesterday sounds like a good time. We did something like that this past Friday. Hubby and I ran 10 miles at the beach, and daughter rode her bike along. I’ve done this pretty regularly with her, but she is older than your kids, I think. She recently turned 12. Yeah, it can be a challenge to fit those workouts in.
I think it’s fine to bring your kids with you when you exercise. I work part time at a gym and parents do it all the time. I also work for Sof Sole one of the leading providers in footwear accessories like socks and insoles. We have created a new line of products for summer and I’d be happy to send you some free samples. Just send me your shoe size and mailing address and all we ask is that you share your experiences oniine. Look forward to hearing from you and happy trails!

Sounds like a lot of fun with the family. Glad you got to enjoy.
Sounds like a good adventure with the family! I can’t stand it when my schedule gets all bonkers. It takes me forever to get used to the new plan and by the time i’m used to it, it changes again! Gahhh! Atleast your kids sound flexibile and willing to allow their awesome mom some workout time! woot woot for marathon training!!
What a great, great Sunday!! It’s always so hard to try and schedule your workout in around life and the weather. Sounds like you have a solid plan.
Sounds like a great time. It is great that you are able to work things out and still have time for yourself. I wish that I could get up in the morning before work but I can’t even see straight. haha
Summer vacation definitely presents a whole new set of scheduling challenges! I really really need to get up earlier to get my runs in before hub gets off to work.
