Staying Fit while the Kids are at Home

The kids have three days off from school this week, so my workout routine has had to change. I have a hard time fitting in a good run when the kids are home. I could always go to the gym but I feel bad about putting them in childcare. I guess that is kind of dumb, but I have a hard time making them do something just because I want to.

I have stayed at home with them since they were born and not taking the time for myself is one of the things that kept me overweight for many years. The things that have really helped me lose weight  over the past year are that they are in school full time and my husband had flexible work hours (which is no longer true).

I dread the summer and having to figure out a workout schedule that works for everyone, but for these three days I think I can manage.   Yesterday I ran while they were at the playground ( I ran in the parking lot and fields of their school, so they were still in sight), and they jogged home with me. I also ran after my husband got home even though it was getting late, I got in three miles before it was completely dark. This morning I worked out on our elliptical machine, did some free weight at home, and am taking them to the trail for a walk/jog. Tomorrow I may just drag them off to the gym, while I do my speed intervals on the treadmill. And Thursday and Friday I can do whatever I want while they are at school.
