• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • Taking a Few Days Off

As much as I hate to I am taking a few days off.  I ran seven miles on Monday and the first two were painful and slow.  I finally got to the point where I could ignore the pain a bit  and move a little faster.  But I never got up the speed I have been going at for runs of this length.   The pain really set in after the run.  I even took an ice bath and some ibuprofen.  No relief.  That’s when I decided to take a few days off.

Now for a bit of self diagnosis.  After reading as much information as I could about hip pain and running, I think it is bursitis (my own opinion, I’m not a doctor) .  I had the same pain  back in November but that time it was a mixture of things ranging from knee pain, that led to ITB pain, and then the same pain I have now.  This time it is just a pain in the joint area of my left leg.  Last week my adductor/ groin area of the left leg also hurt but that pain went away and now I am just left with this.  It all seems to stem back to the Texas Round up 10K.  So the recommendations for busitis: Ice, rest, ibuprofen and stretching. If this doesn’t work I will go in and see my doctor and get it checked out.   Today is my second day without running, I also did not do spin class either day.  I thought complete rest would be the best.  I am considering going in for a spin class tomorrow,  to see  if it irritates my hip or not.  I really hate to not do any kind of exercise.

Here are a couple of  articles about hip pain/running injuries:

I will still be running with my son on Saturday.  He requested just the two of us run it since it is his first 5K and how could I refuse.  My daughter with have plenty of  other chances to run 5ks and she can still particiapate in the kids K.  I am not worried about running on Saturday because my son is a turtle.  And I say that with loads of love, after all I am one as well.  We will be taking our time and our goal will be to finish.  It should be loads of fun :)

    1. Sounds like you need some rest. Lots of people tell me rest is just as good as running sometimes.

Have fun with your son this weekend! Have your hubby take pics so we can see how much fun he is having! Your such a cute mom! :)

    2. Feel for you, I think we have the same injury at the moment as well. My symptoms are exactly as yours. Anyway rest up wisely and you will be back soon.

    3. I hope things are feeling better for you by now! Rest up and take it easy. Hopefully you will be better in no time.

    4. I was having the same issues a few months back and, with the input of a friend who’s father is an orthapaedic surgeon, came to the same conclusion. Luckily, the pain went away after rest and changing shoes. Good luck!
