• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • Texas Round-up 10K Race Report: Humid and Hilly

Those are the two words that best describe my 10K race today.  I guess I should not have expected to much considering the fact that I signed up for the race last weekend and have not really been training for a 10K.  Since my half, I have really just been running whatever the running group runs and then whatever I feel like running on other days.  But I thought since my tempo runs have been around 8:20 min/mile pace, I would be able to at least do that during the race.  But I was not factoring in the hills and the humidity.

I looked at the elevation charts but the hills did not look that impressive.  Well they were tough, tougher than Zooma I would say.  At least the Zooma was out and back, so the uphills and downhills balanced out.  Not so today, and the warm temperatures and humidity made it hard to breath.  I was actually dumping water on my head at the water stops.   I thought I would be able to make up time by really pushing myself during my last mile but they saved a nasty, never ending hill for the last mile.    I finished in 54:45,  I may have been slow but I finished :) .

As a side note, to fans of the Biggest Loser.  Last seasons winner was at the race today  as a representative of Fit Texas, I thought that was pretty cool.

    1. Great race report. It sounds heavy, but you did the 10K in a very good time.

      Great pics

    2. Great spirit! You ran a race you hadn’t thought about beforehand and because of it you pushed yourself a little more than you might have done otherwise. Just added in a challenge because you could. Love that!

also love your outfit (ofcourse) and your shining smile!

no wonder your daughter wants to run!
