• About Me

  • Running has brought great joy to my life. I use this blog to log my running experiences and maybe even inspire a few people to get out there and run. If a turtle like me who couldn't run for more than two minutes without feeling like I was at death's door can run, anybody can.

  • This Week’s Running

Well, I am tired of writing about the hip pain. But if I’m going to write about how my week of running went there is no leaving it out.  Tuesday I did 4 miles in 39 minutes  on the treadmill the pain was not to bad.  Wednesday I ran four painful miles on the trail with my husband, my pace was very slow.  Finished in 42 minutes.  I thought I wouldn’t run the rest of the week but my husband was running on Friday and I wanted to join him, not the brightest idea.  I ran for about one and a half miles and then told him to go on I was going to walk back.   I just did not want to run through the pain.  By the time he got back to me there was about half a mile left and we walked it together.  Walking and taking it slow gave us a chance to get some  photos.

Well, I think my hip will be fine.  I think I am just still feeling the effects of the long run or at least that is my hope.  No longer do I have the inclination to run while I’m in pain.  This week I did 9 miles and next week I think I will do 0.  See if that helps and this time I mean it.  NO RUNNING.  I know I’ve said it before but it is a habit that is hard to break and  I rely on my runs for so many things.  But running with the pain is starting to discourage me and  it is making me feel there is no way I can meet my goal of running a marathon.  Complete rest it is, so that I can start my training off on the right  foot.

    1. Beautiful pictures! You are very smart to rest. It can be hard to do, but you will be so glad you did!

    2. Oh discouraged little turtle…

I once ran a 10miler in 1:02, and couldn’t make a half mile the next day. It was my first injury ever. Tendinitis of the hip.

That started my love of cycling. I’ve spent hours in the best weather, on the best trails, riding some great rides.

Recently I’ve found it makes a nice substitute while working through injuries in the short term too. Helping to keep the cardio fitness level up. If you can’t run, you might want to try riding.

…of course you’ll need to put wheels on your turtle logo.

    3. Great pics. The trail looks very good.
It is very wise to reduce the # of Ks when injured.

      Have a great weekend

    4. Great pics!

Where in your hip is your pain? I had a hip adductor strain in Jan/Feb of this year. The pain was felt especially in my hip. I took a couple weeks off (did nothing at all) and then restarted short and slow. I’m back up to close to 40 mpw now no worse for wear.

Have you checked this site out: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net. I found that it was very informative to try to figure out what my problem was.

      Best of luck!

    5. Your photos are beautiful. I never seen any wildlife on my trail, other than bunnies. Enjoy your rest time. I know it will be hard but hopefully, this will be what the doc ordered.

    6. Do you do weights work on your hips? I quit doing any hip work, even leg lifts lying on my side, because one hip was chronically sore. Whatever brute strength I lost is more than made up for in mobility.

      @ridgeley

    7. @ridgeley I haven’t been doing much leg work lately but my doc said that strengthening my adductor muscles might help
@ glenn that is a great site. the pain starts in the adductor and I feel the pain on the inner part of my hip/groin and it sometimes radiates to the back. from looking at the site I see a match for my symptoms, and the stretches my pt gave me are the same as what the site says. The only difference is the site says I shouldn’t run with the pain. So looks like my plan to take a week or two off is a good call.

    8. Keep your spirits up – you are doing the right thing by running 0 this week.

    9. A little rest can help heal everything. Maybe run only 3 times a week about 3 miles each…I know you want to do more, but going back easy with low miles can help.
