Week in review and Next week’s training schedule
Sunday’s run was another wet one. It was not raining when I left, but started raining almost as soon as I got on the trail, I could not believe it. But I just kept running. The run went pretty quickly, I did not bring anything to listen to it was just me and my Garmin. I tried to get a little speed going but my legs weren’t cooperating, I guess it was to soon after my long run. I ran the 3 in 27:52, I have been really disappointed with my speed lately. That was my last run of the week, I managed to stick with my plan all week despite the bad weather. Total mileage 37.
Only three weeks until my race and I feel much slower now than I was when I was training for my last half marathon. I will be really focusing on my speed sessions for the next 3 weeks, I hope they will help me get to where I want to be.
Here is this weeks training schedule:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 8P
- Halves: Warm up; 1×400 meters (recover for 200); 4×800 meters (recover 400);1×400 meters;cool down. goal pace for fast intervals 7:47 min/mile
Wednesday: 3 miles
Thursday: 6 miles
- 1 mile warm up; 4 mile tempo; 1 mile cool down. goal pace for tempo 8:12 min/mile
Friday: rest
Saturday: 18 mile long run. I have never gone this far before. Last time around I only did 17 as my longest run..
Sunday: 3 mile recovery
Off the topic of running for a bit, I went to another spin class today. I bought a pair of bike shorts, felt like I was wearing a diaper, but was a lot more comfortable. There was a different instructor this time and I did not burn as many calories, but I still got in a good workout. She made us do push ups and sit ups at the end, which was not something we did last time. Luckily we only did 3 sets of ten on the push ups. Any more and I would have been out of my comfort zone, and that is somewhere I do not like to go in public.
These are the shorts I bought.

Gosh, an 18 mile run, you’re a total rock star!
I get what you mean about your comfort zone, I want to get better at yoga, so I’ve been doing more yoga at home to get myself more comfortable with it before I take classes.
Nice mileage! you are killin it out there! Great job
Can’t wait to try out my garmin like you!
18 miles is nothing if you have done 17. It is only a state of mind.
Hi there,
I stumbled upon your blog via another (can’t remember which one though) and have been enjoying reading about your training and progress. I’m in awe that a year ago you couldn’t run a mile and now you will be running 18 this weekend. Such a great accomplishment. I’m looking forward to following your training.
18 miles, whoo-hoo! I cant beleive either that you have been running for a year and have accomplished that. You are an inspiration! My longest run to date is 4.5 miles. I keep inching my way….
Looks like a good workout for next week… I wouldn’t be too bummed about running 3 miles in 27 minutes…I think you’re doing a great job!
Do you have a picture of your bike shorts? I’m picturing spandex but then you said they feel like a diaper, lol.
Justine,
Inch by inch, is exactly how I did it, increasing my mileage a little every week. Celebrating each new personal best in my training, new mileage and/or faster speed. The major increases came when I started training for my first half. Hitting double digits for the first time made me feel strong, like I could accomplish anything. You’ll be there before you know it. You are doing great!
Amy,
They are spandex on the outside. On the inside they have padding the shape of a bike seat..I wore another pair of shorts over them so I don’t think any body could see the extra padding…I will post a pic tonight.
